BASSETERE, ST. KITTS(CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has paid tribute to the late Howell Patrick Bramble, the veteran Montserrat-born journalist, who died in Nevis, his adopted home, last Saturday 13th April.
"It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Howell Bramble and, on behalf of my Cabinet colleagues, extend heartfelt sympathy to all who knew and loved him," said the Prime Minister in a statement.
Prime Minister Douglas noted that Mr. Bramble, having been born into a prominent Caribbean family, was the son of Montserrat’s first Chief Minister, Mr. William Bramble and brother of that island’s second Chief Minister, Mr. Austin Bramble.
"Howell Bramble established a name for himself in the worlds of business and journalism. As we know, he owned The Mirror in Montserrat, and was an important presence at the highly-regarded Radio Antilles. The people of St. Kitts and Nevis, like people elsewhere, were regular readers of his Leeward Times – yet another reminder of Howell Bramble’s understanding of the importance of the media to a modern society, and the leadership role that he always sought to play in the world of news and information," Dr. Douglas said.
He noted that Howell Bramble was a frequent and professional presence at press events arranged by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, in general, and the Office of the Prime Minister, in particular.
"He strove to make a contribution to the land and region of his birth, and this he did. He will, indeed, be missed," said Prime Minister Douglas.
" On my own behalf, I again extend sincere condolences to the his dear wife, Ruby Wade-Bramble, the Hon. P. Austin Bramble and other relatives in Montserrat, his friends and pray that in the support of others, you will find comfort and strength," said Dr. Douglas, who added that he was pleased to have known Mr. Bramble.
Funeral service for the late Mr. Bramble will take place in Montserrat on Sunday.
