An invitation was received from the host Country Jamaica ( President of the NACAC Mr. Teddy Mc Cook,) inviting both Curacao & St. Maarten to participate in the 40th Annual Carifta Games.

Being aware of the controversy taking place in the Sport of track & Field, and also being aware of what the negative effect it could have on the athletes of Cur / St. Maarten if they do not take part, a decision was taken to have both combined as one team as was done in the passed.

This selection has been made, consisting of athletes from Curacao and from St. Maarten, under the agreement that they compete as one team.

St. Maarten athletes taking part were:

1. Edwin Ruan competed in 200 meters & Triple Jump.

2. Fernando Brooks competing in 100 meters.

3. Emmy Fraenk, our hope for a medal this year did not receive the green light to participate due to school matters, in the USA.

All in all, the Meet was a great success. Athletes from Jamaica, Bahamas, Barbados receiving the majority of the medals.

Three athletes from Curacao received a bronze medal, ( High Jump, Shot put, and 1500 Meters. St. Maarten Athletes received an Educational / teaching moment, a learning experience they will not soon forget.)

This was their first International event at this level, now they will come back home and work harder for the next time.

The next time these events will be hosted by Bermuda, and the St. Maarten Amature Athletic Federation has started preparing athletes again, but this time we are putting matters in place which will give us the right to participate as St. Maarten with our own FLAG.

A BIG thank you goes out to all the sponsors who made this trip possible.

Mr. Don Hugues of PJD2.

Management of Telcell, who made it possible so our athletes could have made the trip.

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.

The St. Maarten Amateur Athletic Federation.
