The St. Maarten Fire Department and Friends of the Island Government Fire Fighters will be celebrating Fire Prevention Month starting from October 3rd to 30th.
Fire Prevention Month will be packed with information and activities to raise fire safety awareness within the community.
The theme of this 2016 Fire Prevention month is: KNOWING YOUR EMERGENCY PLAN.
Fire Prevention is promoted annually around the world during the month of October. This year the St. Maarten Fire Prevention Department will be partnering with several organizations to organize the following activities:
- Setting up of Emergency Plan and drills for all primary schools.
- Installation of smoke detectors in houses, whereby every week a different district in the country will be visited by Fire fighters.
- Lecture and workshop on Fire Safety for architects, engineers and inspectors on October 28th.
- Open house and Fire Safety Expo at the Fire Station on October 30th from 09.00 to 5.00 pm, with walkthrough at the fire station, demonstrations of firefighting skills, and fire safety providers will exhibit their services.
Fire Prevention Month will start on October 3rd with the Firefighters visiting the Sucker Garden neighborhood daily for one week from 3pm to 9pm to install one smoke detector free of charge in a certain number of homes.
Other districts will be announced on a weekly basis. Interested homeowners can call the Fire Department if they are interested in a visit from fire personnel regarding a free smoke detector.
