Rev. Stephen Brooks was inducted into the prestigious Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College on Thursday, March 31, 2016, as part of the historic college’s MLK, Jr. College of Ministers and Laity Celebration.
The 31st annual induction celebration included a group of 15 preachers, men and women of various nationalities, denominations, and race. “The chapel’s mission is to teach, encourage and inspire one to become ambassadors of peace for our beloved world community, they believe in a world of peace,” said Rev. Brooks.
The St. Martin born Methodist Minister who served the St. Maarten/St. Martin circuits from 2008 to 2012, is the first St. Martin preacher to be inducted into Morehouse College. “I am honored to have been selected for this task to carry forward the principal and values of this great institution,” said Brooks.
“I’m also grateful to carry the flagship of St. Maarten/St. Martin Methodist Church who has been my greatest inspiration in doing the work of the Lord,” said Brooks, who will be the guest on Conscious Lyrics Radio Magazine, this Saturday, April 9, on SOS Radio 95.9 FM, from 12 to 1pm.
The Charge given to15 preachers was presented by Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr., Dean of Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel. “I charge you to be faithful servant scholar leaders, guarantors of continuity, celebrators of change, negotiators of structure, facilitators of meaning, practitioners of cosmopolitan ethics, and co-creators of the Beloved World Community with the hope that we can right age-old wrongs that continue to haunt the American people and the world,” said Dr. Carter who was also the guest speaker at the launch of the “Victory Over Violence” campaign here in St. Martin in 1994, organized by the Soka Gakkai International.
“Special thanks to my wife Claudine who was part of the trip to Atlanta, and provided great support and encouragement during the entire process,” said Rev. Brooks.
