The Student Support Services Division (SSSD) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs is offering a free workshop for Parents on Helping Children with Choosing and Exploring Career Choices.
This workshop entitled, “Looking Beyond: Helping Your Child With Career Choices” will be held Tuesday April 5, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the University of St. Martin.
This workshop will assist parents with helping their children to plan and prepare for his/her future and also with choosing a career path or study.
Parents of students in the last three years of secondary school and those of recent secondary school graduates are invited to attend. The earlier the career exploration process begins, the more opportunities students will have to figure out what their interests and skills are instead of feeling rushed to make a decision during their last year in secondary school.
“The importance of parental support and assistance to students who are interested in furthering their studies or going into the world of work after secondary school is vital in helping young people to transition. ” SSSD officials stated. Parents will be given tips, strategies, and resources to use with their children to aid them in researching career options, actively exploring career options, and assisting them with decision making.
This workshop is especially geared towards parents. Students will have an opportunity to attend a series of sessions which will be held from May to October 2016. SSSD urges parents to encourage their children to attend the free informational and interactive workshops for them.
SSSD is located in the Amigo Building, across from the Police Station and next to the Windward Island Bank (WIB) in Philipsburg. For more information, please call the Student Support Services Division at 543-1235.
