Independent Member of Parliament (MP) Leona Marlin-Romeo, congratulates outgoing Minister of Education Culture Youth Affairs and Sports Rita Bourne-Gumbs and organizers for a well thought out theme for the 2015, Sint Maarten’s Day Celebration.
“It was a pleasure to see the display of diverse cultures unified to celebrate Sint Maarten’s Day in a dignified way. This is indeed a step in promoting the cultural heritage of Sint Maarten, a way to reconnect, respect, reintroduce, essential tangible and non-tangible things that were dormant.
“One could hear persons in the crowd reminiscing on how their grandparents dressed, the music they listened too. Others took the moment to educate the younger generation on the culture of Sint Maarten.
“It was a nostalgic moment reflecting in retrospect. This was a much needed initiative for a young developing nation seeking to determine its identity.
“It’s important for us to know and value our past so that we may better shape our future. Take your bow Minister Rita Bourne- Gumbs and team for a job well done; you have made your mark and made us proud,” MP Leona Marlin-Romeo said on Thursday.
