Secretary General for the St. Maarten National Commission for UNESCO, Ms. Marcellia Henry indicated that the study grants recipients, Ms. Donne Darroux and Mr. Nkomo Lake will be participating in the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) Specialized Courses Programme in Paris, France in May, 2015.
The International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) is an education policy research and professional training institution of the UNESCO created in 1963. The Institute’s research and training programmes are geared to strengthening national capacities to analyze and formulate sound education policies, realistic education plans, and manage effectively education resources such as personnel and finance.
Ms. Donne Darroux, who is a policy and research worker at the Department of Education has been admitted into the UNESCO/IIEP Specialized Course: Micro-planning and school mapping course, which will be held from May 11 to May 22, 2015. While Mr. Nkomo Lake, who is a financial officer at the Department of Education has been admitted into the UNESCO/IIEP Specialized Course: Education Budgets and Financial Management, which will be held from May 25 to June 5, 2015.
The study grant request was submitted to the Sint Maarten National Commission for UNESCO by the Head of the Department of Education, Mrs. Sidonia Lacorbiniere-Hodge in her effort to ensure her staff receives the necessary capacity building needed for them to effectively execute their tasks.
During the meet and greet, Minister Bourne- Gumbs extended well wishes to Ms. Darroux and Mr. Lake and wished them successful completion of their courses at IIEP. Minister Bourne-Gumbs also looks forward to them sharing the knowledge gained from the training amongst the rest of the staff at the department and within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports.
Minister Bourne- Gumbs also commended Mrs. Lacorbiniere-Hodge for taking advantage of this opportunity to obtain funding and professional development for the staff in her department via UNESCO.
