Minister Plenipotentiary, Hon. Josianne Fleming–Artsen on Tuesday, 14th April received a courtesy visit at Sint Maarten House in The Hague, the Netherlands Saskia Luckmann-Meijer, project leader of Stichting de Cultuur (Foundation of Culture) Kameleon.
Stichting de Cultuur Kameleon organizes in collaboration with the Sint Maarten Philipsburg Jubilee Library, Digikids and the Windsong Foundation, the Media Lab at the Public Library of Sint Maarten.
The Media Lab is a computer room where workshops are given in the area of new media, ICT (Information Communication Technology) and education for school children, teachers, elderly and groups who have less opportunity to learn about the use of internet applications.
Course members can learn for instance how to make a Prezi presentation, a book (film) trailer, and animation film, or how to use a digital school board.
In May literacy and IT-specialist Pauline Maas will travel to Sint Maarten to teach children and teachers how to start computer programming and why it is important to learn this from a young age. Programming is nowadays a hot topic in schools.
Minister Plenipotentiary Fleming-Artsen and Luckmann-Meijer talked about the future plans for the Media Lab on Sint Maarten and the possibilities to start a digital educational film library for the islands of the Kingdom of the Netherlands including Sint Maarten.
Minister Fleming-Artsen is looking forward to assisting in what way possible with respect to the facilitation of this project as it will allow the European part of the Kingdom to be able to learn more about the Caribbean part of the Dutch Kingdom, adding that more communication is needed in order to have a better understanding of each other.
