Recently the board members of the recently in cooperated none governmental organization, the Sint Maarten Social Workers Association (SSWA), held an informative meeting with the Honorable Minister Dr. Cornelius De Weever. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the board and to update the Minister on the progress of the formalization of the Board and its activities thus far.
On March 18, 2014 (World Social Worker’s Day), Government through the Minister acknowledged the important role Social Workers play in the community of Sint Maarten. History was made with the in cooperation of the first St. Maarten Social Worker’s Association which is to be further development through its five member Board. The board applauded the Minister for taking this very timely and much needed initiative which becomes a pre-requisite in professionalizing and developing the profession of Social Work here on Sint Maarten. Since its inception the Board has been working assiduously to structure and develop the association. Through the Minister government has pledge to partner with the NGO in the further development of the association and the Social Work profession on Sint Maarten. The Board is embarking on a membership drive with the goal of registering and attracting Social Workers, other professionals and para-professionals working in social related fields to be part of this association. In addition a logo and slogan competition will be launched at its first general membership meeting to be held on May 23, 2014 at the office of SJIB in madame estate; upstairs the former bowling alley. All social workers and social work affiliates are welcome to attend the membership drive meeting
