A delegation of the St. Maarten Little League Association attended the 26th International Little League Congress held in Minneapolis Minnesota from April 4th – 7th 2014.
Little League District administrators and other volunteers and their families, approximate 2500 persons from around the world gathered and had, what has been determined to be, a very successful congress.
The International Congress is held every 4 years with and the primary purpose is to give Little League volunteers a voice in proposing, amending and adopting rules and regulations. In so doing it enabled participants, who under normal circumstances would never meet, share their experiences with each other.
The schedule of activities included; exhibits by service providers and sponsors, round table discussions to facilitate rule amendments, workshops covering various interesting topics and more.
Districts Administrators and Assistant district administrators were honored through the presentation of pins marking milestones by 5 year periods. During the closing banquet many prestigious awards were also presented to persons for their outstanding service to the Little League program.
Throughout 2014 Little League International is celebrating its 75th anniversary. On June 6th 2014 the actual Little League day a documentary on the history of the organization will be launched. Delegates at the congress had the opportunity to preview the documentary which presents many highlights from the start and shows the progress over the many years.
One of the highlights for us was the parade of flags during the opening ceremony when the St. Maarten flag was among those of the many nations in attendance. Attending the congress was a great experience and it reemphasized the reasons we continue to give of our time to execute this program for the children on St. Maarten.
