St. Eustatius has new Chief Basic Police Care

Since February 19th St. Eustatius has a new Chief of Basic Police Care in the person of Mr. Sylvester Dieteren. This year he is working 32 years at the Ministry of Defense. In 1992 he transferred to the Royal Constabulary (KMar). Dieteren looks forward to this new challenge. "I look forward to not only my stay but also my tasks on Statia in a positive way. The size and reception by the different officials, including the members of the Island Council and the Executive Council, feels like a warm blanket".

Dieteren brings a lot of experience with him to this new position. Before coming to St. Eustatius he worked as Head of the section Executive Support at the brigade at South Brabant in Eindhoven. Dieteren took over the position of Chief Basic Police Care from Bas Germs who held the position on St. Eustatius six months before him.

In the past 21 years at the Royal Constabulary Sylvester Dieteren has worked in different task fields: Conflict and Crisis management, Immigrants flows, Intelligence, Enforcement and Detection. He has always worked in managerial positions in the different operational services and has also managed the Mobile Unit (ME) and the Special Unit (BE). The Mobile Unit has as primary task to prevent or to combat disturbances of public order. During football competitions or demonstrations you will often see the ME on the street. All workers of the ME carry out normal police work daily. Being a Me’er is therefore not a side job. The BE is a special unit that steps in during aggravating circumstances where there are mayor threats of violence. "Following my placement here on St. Eustatius I will be placed on Bonaire as Team leader Border for the duration of three to five years".

The Royal Netherlands Military Constabulary (KMar) is responsible for the border control at the airports and sea borders on the three islands of the Caribbean Netherlands. Besides that the KMar also handles the police tasks at the airports and supports the Police on Saba and St. Eustatius.
