Concacaf and the Soccer Associations of Saint Martin and Sint Maarten partnered together to provide a referee course that benefited both sides of the island. Of the approximately 25 participants five were ladies and four represented the Oualichi Women’s Soccer Association.
The group learned the various laws and legal considerations of soccer and participated in theoretical and practical courses on the field. Claudia Serna, Danielou Simmons, Dagmar Daal and Danaë Daal received a certificate at the end from instructors Mr. Livingstone and Mr. Whitaker. A follow up course will be given in May where the training will focus more applying practical skills on the soccer field. Once the ladies gain more experience locally it will be possible for them to represent Sint Maarten in other Caribbean competitions as female referees or assistant referees. "This is a positive step in the right direction for female soccer on Sint Maarten" commented a representative of the Women’s Soccer Association. "We have more female teams in different age categories, a new Concacaf licensed female coach and now we progressing in having female referees". Organisers who wish to have the females referees at their competition can contact the Sint Maarten Soccer Association, President Nicky Owen, or the Oualichi Women’s Soccer Association.
