President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell concluded a successful week of secondary school awareness sessions regarding the functioning of the House of Parliament and the role that it plays in shaping the laws of the land.
The schools that enthusiastically took part in the week of November 18 were Sundial School, Learning Unlimited, the Charlotte Brookson Academy of the Performance Arts, and Milton Peters College (MPC).
A group of students from MPC visited the House of Parliament last Thursday where President Arrindell gave them a presentation.
President Arrindell stated that her information session with schools were designed to encourage meaningful engagement between students and the House of Parliament in order to increase young people’s understanding of the work, impact and relevance of the highest legislative branch of Government in the country.
"In the past we have had the primary schools coming to the House and roll playing with their peers in order to experience exactly how it goes when a Minister comes to the House of Parliament to be questioned by members of the House or to provide information about a specific topic(s)," President Arrindell said on Sunday.
In the case of young people, by involving young people in the democratic process, her program aims to communicate the importance of the political process to young people and help them develop as active citizens of the society of country Sint Maarten.
