Youths between the ages of 10 and 18 battled it out last Saturday during the first round of the St. Maarten Table Tennis Federation Governor’s Cup series at the L.B. Scot Sport Auditorium in the presence of His Excellency drs. Eugene Holiday.
The game set up was " Round Robin style" whereby all players played 6 different opponents in the strive to come out to the top of the rounds. The youngest player of the tournament went undefeated in all 6 matches leading up to the finals. His opponent had 5 wins and 1 loss tied with the defending champion from last year. During the final match, young Josiah P. (10) won his first round against Garwin 13-11 after which Garwin retaliated with a 15-13 win. The beginning of the third round was tense, the sparse crowd cheered them both on and Young Josiah secured the championship winning with a 11- 8 score.
After the match his excellency presented all participants with a medal as a token of appreciation and handed the Grand winner his cup.
His Excellency mentioned that discipline is important for all youngster while building themselves and he is proud to see the improvement of the players compared to the championship last year.
Coach Radjouki thanked all the Sponsors, participants, media personalities and parents that came out to support.
"We will push to make bring this great sport on another level on St. Maarten".
The next tournament is scheduled for October 26th at 10 am sharp in the L.B.Scot Sports Auditorium Hall.
