A team from the ILO was on Sint Maarten recently to install the Labor Market Information System (LMIS).
Mr. Reynold Simons, the Senior Specialist for Employment and Labor Market Policies and Mr. Kerwyn Roach, the Software Developer administered training to users while installing the software. This new program will heighten the services of the executing agencies which would allow for the distribution of reliable and timely statistics nationally, regionally and internationally.
By utilizing this product, the Department of Inspection can enhance their service quality, and allow the monitoring of trends which assists in program and policy development. The system provides modules for performing inspections; planning and scheduling, site visits, report formulation and any follow ups necessary for the Inspectorate to carry out its functions appropriately. These functions can include processing of occupational accidents, labour regulation breaches and all complaints registered both at the inspectorate or referred from the Labour Affairs agency.
"With this system in place, the inspectors will be able to carry out their inspections in a more organized, proficient and professional manner, all as a means of enhancing its services," said Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labour, Cornelius De Weever.
The standard reporting format output from the system allows for better communication and comparison throughout the various ILO countries which makes tracking Regional trends all the more easier.
