Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake recently met with SXM Airport Managing Director Regina Labega and members of her Executive Team where he was briefed about the airports plans.
The Minister and members of his cabinet received a presentation about the loan acquisition; the economic impact of the airport on the economy of the country; future plans for the airport with the aim of keeping the facility competitive within the region; relocation of the fuel farm; a new fire station; and construction of the FBO facility for private jets.
Minister Lake was very pleased to be briefed about the airports plans and commended management, board and employees for their stewardship, and especially employees and the other stakeholders for their professional service provided everyday to visitors.
The Minister also requested that an alternative location be looked into with respect to the fuel farm since it is now projected close to a hotel. The airport agreed to study this further and get back to the Minister within two weeks.
Minister Hon. Maurice Lake pledged his support to the airport with respect to any permits that they would need in order to facilitate the construction works, and was looking forward to a continued close working relationship.
The Executive Team of SXM Airport also included Robert Brown, Max Schakel and Khalifa Hickenson.
