UN Regional Rep Blewitt to visit Sint Maarten and Meet with Governor and Prime Minister

Richard Blewitt, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and UN Development Program Resident Representative for Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten, will be visiting the country for the first time on Tuesday and will be paying a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Wednesday.

 

Blewitt will present his credentials to the Prime Minister Hon. Sarah Wescot-Williams on Wednesday morning.

During his visit Blewitt will also meet with the representatives of the Department of Interior and Kingdom Relations that is coordinating the National Development Plan process for the country. This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

He will also meet with other organizations and Ministries on the island who are trying to forge relations with UN agencies.

On Tuesday Blewitt will also pay a courtesy visit to the Cabinet of the Governor.

Richard Blewitt was appointed to his position back in April. Prior to his appointment, he was Chief Executive Officer of HelpAge International for six years. During that period he assisted HelpAge to win the Hilton Prize for its groundbreaking work on ageing and development.

The new UN Resident Coordinator has also held several key posts with humanitarian agencies such as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent; the British Red Cross Society; UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs; and Save the Children Fund, are just some of the organizations that he worked for.
