St. Maarten Youth Parliament on Recruitment Drive

The Sint Maarten Youth Parliament is a program of the St. Maarten Youth Council Association, geared towards youth 12 -24. The program provides training in Government & Politics, Parliamentary Procedures, Debating, Critical Thinking & Reasoning Skills as well as Leadership Training.

The Sint Maarten Youth Parliament is a youth think tank. In addition to holding public policy debates, the Youth Parliament organizes public forums and discussions that allow young people to voice their opinions on key issues, and to gather information on issues that affect their lives. This vibrant group of young leaders is also service-oriented and actively involved in giving service to the community.

During the period July to August, the group is embarking on a recruitment drive for new members. The intent is to replace members who are leaving to further their studies, and to extend the program to more young persons. The new recruits will also include candidates for the Kingdom Youth Parliament, which will be held on St. Maarten in May 2014. Persons interested in being a part of the program can contact the St. Maarten Youth Parliament by email: sxmyouthparliament@hotmail.com, call 550-8971 or visit https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sint-Maarten-Youth-Parliament for more information.

In August of this year, the Youth Parliament will host a public debate on the topic: "A curriculum that prepares us for life: incorporating technological advancements in education." The debate will take place in the Hall of Parliament at a date and time to be confirmed.

The St. Maarten Youth Parliament meets every other Friday at 5 pm at the conference room at the Parliament Building. A special thanks is extended to the Parliament of St. Maarten and the support staff for making this possible.
