– congratulates WICB President and Vice President on election to office
St John’s, Antigua – Prime Minister of Dominica, The Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit has pledged his government’s support to the Dominica Cricket Association in establishing a cricket academy in Dominica. He also said that his government will pledge scholarships for the members of the academy to the high schools and the Dominica State College.
The announcement came as the Prime Minister sent a message of congratulations to West Indies Cricket Board President Dave Cameron and Vice President Emmanuel Nanthan on their election to office.
Prime Minister Skerrit wrote: "On behalf of the people and government of Dominica I join the wider Caribbean region in extending congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Dave Cameron on his election to the esteemed regional office of President of the West Indies Cricket Board and our own Dominican brother, His Excellency Emmanuel Nanthan to the equally esteemed office of Vice President of the WICB. The people of the region have reposed confidence in you and we are sure you will rise to the challenges."
"We recognize the contributions made by those who previously held these positions and commend them for their efforts. Now we look towards this youthful and energetic duo to move things further along the developmental path to move West Indies Cricket further up the international ladder," Prime Minister Skerrit added.
He also complimented Nanthan, who is also the President of the DCA on his leadership of cricket in Dominica.
"No one can question your (Nanthan’s) commitment to cricket at all levels in Dominica we have seen Ambassador Nanthan leadership in making Windsor Park one of the premier venues for hosting international matches," the Dominican leader wrote.
The Prime Minister also outlined that his nation is prepared to play its role in helping to uplift cricket within the region.
"We in Dominica and I am certain in the wider OECS stand ready to play our roles in contributing towards our dear regional game and it uplifting and development. The Government of Dominica will provide all the necessary support at the domestic level. We take the opportunity to wish you well as you lead our regional team to higher heights," concluded the Prime Minister who has been in office since 2004.
