On Saturday February 16th at approximately 03.30 a.m. a phone call came into the Central Police dispatch reporting a serious traffic accident with injuries on the Welfare road in the vicinity of La Bamba. Immediately several police patrols were dispatch to the scene to investigate what had taken place. On the scene the investigating officers encountered the victim with initials G.D.R. (30) from Great Britain. The victim who was heavily under the influence of alcohol and attempted to cross the street was accidentally struck by an oncoming jeep with license plate P-8118. The victim suffered severe bruises to his body and concussion to his head. He was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment where he is a coma. The case is under investigation by the Police Traffic Department.
