SXM Airport comes to the aid of MLK School

When a school cries out for help, it invariably strikes a sympathetic cord with the Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) with a long-standing tradition of outreach to the youth of the island.

So, when concerned citizen Christopher Emmanuel approached Regina LaBega, managing director of PJIAE, the operating company of SXM Airport last week with the school’s urgent need for janitorial supplies she got on board right away to assist.

"There was no hesitation on her part when I contacted her," said social activist Christopher Emmanuel, who explained how he got involved in seeking help for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Primary School.

"I was on a radio program one night, on Fernando Clark’s show, and one of the teachers called in to say how the school lacked several materials. Fernando, in his usual manner, said, ‘no problem, Chris will take care of it.’"

"When I contacted Regina, her response was instant; she told me to come over. SXM Airport really came through big time," Emmanuel added.

"It is a standing policy of ours to extend a helping hand to our schools whenever and wherever possible," LaBega said. "A school with a name like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and needing assistance during a month like February, Black History Month? It is just natural for SXM Airport to quickly do what it can to help."

The school officials were very pleased to receive the much-needed items Monday morning, February 11, 2013.
