The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams will continue the U 2 Can Move fitness campaign which she initiated. On Friday some two hundred and fifty civil servants joined in the Soualiga Walk event and the fitness campaign will continue with the Zumba classes which will be held starting on the 5th of September.
Last week the Prime Minister distributed thirty pedometers to the first thirty civil servants who registered for the walk. Various departments and ministries joined in the walk including the community police officers who signed up for the event last week. All participants were given special U 2 Can Move t-shirts especially for the events.
The Prime Minister said previously that the events are a part of a larger fitness campaign where she encourages Civil Servants to take their health and fitness seriously. "There is much we can do for ourselves as individuals and as a country as far as good health is concerned. Information, diet and exercise are the basic ABC’s and are valuable in any situation. I want to encourage our health institutions, practitioners and NGO’s in this field to focus on educating our community on aspects of health and I call on all, especially our women, to take responsibility for their health, regular check-ups, and to heed warning signs such as aches and pains," the prime minister said. These two events are no different and I encourage Civil Servants to get up and move and be active," commented the Prime Minister.
