Minister Jacobs visits Haagse Hogeschool in The Hague

On Thursday Minister of Education, Culture, Youth & Sports (MinECYS) Hon. Silveria Jacobs, visited the Haagse Hogeschool in The Hague.

At the Haagse Hogeschool, the Minister and her delegation met with Drs. Anna Maria Andriol, a Senior Advisor within the Education and Student Affairs Department.

Drs. Andriol, who is no stranger to St.Maarten, is also the Project Manager for Talent Development. Talent Development is a project whereby current students of the Haagse Hogeschool act as mentors for secondary school students by guiding them in their study- and career choice.

The prevailing thought behind the project is that students are the experienced experts on studying and study choices.
The discussions held centered mainly on:

·       The guidance of the St. Maarten students at Haagse Hogeschool

·       Preparation of students to study in the Netherlands
·    Collaboration with USM on the Bachelors in International Law, Life Sciences and ‘HBO Recht’ programs.

It was agreed that a delegation from the Haagse Hogeschool will visit St. Maarten later this month to finalize these discussions.

The Minister was also on hand when the group of St. Maarten students visited the Haagse Hogeschool to finalize their registration.

Students at the Haagsche Hogeschool and in other cities were happy to be registered at their schools and are settling into their rooms and apartments.

A few students will stay with family while awaiting their apartment or rooms at the end of August. The general consensus with students is that they are in good spirits with the weather and its unpredictability being their concern at the moment.

Yolanda Martina of the Study Financing department updated the minister on the status of the students early Thursday evening. Along with Head Mentor Nadjeska, Yolanda Martina has been visiting the students at their homes and addressing their inquiries and any concerns that they may have.
