In continuation of the St. Martin Pony League’s 2012 Yourth Baseball Competition and in what could be described as a ball game where respect ware being sought the Sandy Ground Mariners under good pitching of Joan Gomez earned their respect from the Padres when they surprise the Padres with the score of 9 – 5.
The Cul de Sac Padres team came very confident of the victory and moving up to the number two position on the chart . However already in the first inning the Mariners started their surprise bombardment scoring 8 big runs in the first inning. Five of the runs scored was with two outs. Cul de Sac went to bat and it was a 1-2-3 for pitcher Joan Gomez. In the second Sandy Ground scored 3 more runs. In this inning the bats of the Padres came alive and they scored 6 big runs also to bring the game at 11- 6. For a while it had appeared as if there were a pitcher’s duel between Jamary Seymour and Joan Gomez. But Joan was too powerful for Seymour. Joan striked out 8 batters of the Padres. The following three innings were scoreless on both sides until the last inning where Sandy Ground scored 4 more runs and Cul de Sac only manage to score 2 more to bring the game to a 15 -8 victory for Sandy Ground. With this victory Sandy Ground Mariners is now at the third place in the standings. In the game played on Sunday the Dutch Quarter Dodgers defeated I CAN Braves 5 – 1 and placed themselves at second place of the chart.
