After long waiting on the facility in Belvedere and after making sacrifice of one of their practice days last Friday The St. Martin Pony League started with the 2012 Youth baseball season.
The first game was between the arch rivals Dutch Quarter Dodgers and the Cul de Sac Padres. After throwing of the first official pitches by the two St. Maarten pro-baseball players Rene Leverett and Felix Brown the long awaited game begun. As was expected the game was base on speed on the bases. The game started with the Padres taking an early lead by Perry Reed scoring the first run for the Padres. In their turn at bat the Dodgers responded with Joly Gumbs steeling bases to his delight until scoring run number one off a single by batter Jesus Enrique. With the same token Jesus followed the same path of his team mate. Pitcher Degards Williams was could not contain the speed on bases of the Dodgers that he even balked in two occacions. At the end of the inning it was Dutch Quarter 2 for 1. In the third inning Carlos Elian of the Dodgers scored one more run to make the game 3-1 The game remain with this score until the last inning when the Padres tied the game 3-3 with force playing of Ariel Gabriel and Sherdon Arrindell. Because of time limit with the field the game could not continue.
The game of Saturday which was played on the Dump was between the St. James Yankees and the Philipsburg Angels. St. James won with a score of 9 – 7 with good pitching by Noel Felix and Victor Guillen. Next game will be Wednesday afternoon between Philipsburg Angels and The Dutch Quarter Dodgers
