Saba and St. Eustatius trained to use new equipment
On Tuesday December 6th and Wednesday December 7th , the Dutch Caribbean Fire Brigade conducted intensive training for its workers on respectively St. Eustatius and Saba in the use of brand new rescue equipment. Training of the workers on Bonaire is scheduled to take place Friday December 9th . Recently, the departments received a shipment of the latest rescue equipment from the company Holmatro, a Dutch USA-based company specializing in Rescue Equipment. According to Local Commander of the Saba Fire Department, Mr. Julio Every, " We now have the most advanced in cutting tools such as: the jaws of life rescue cutter, the spreader, various size rams and one mini cutter".
Significant improvement
This equipment, which arrived just a few weeks ago, replaces the older models in use at the Brigade and is a significant improvement of the capabilities of the Brigade when dealing with for example car accidents.
The cutter uses "CORE Technology" whereby during technical assistance, including car accidents, the Fire Brigade can work faster and more efficient.
This equipment replaces the older models which the fire department used before.
General Commander of the Dutch Caribbean Fire Brigade, Jair Tromp, says he is very pleased that his team on all three islands is getting the required tools and training needed in order to perform their task well and to be of better service to the communities. He further emphasized that training and upgrading of firemen on Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire will be among top priorities in the New Year 2012.
