Thursday morning at approximately 09.30 a.m. a break-in that was taking place in a house on Back street was reported to the Central Police Dispatch and that the three suspects involved in the break-in was on the run. Immediately a police patrol was sent to investigate.
Commissioner Carl John and Inspector Ricardo Henson were driving on the Long Wall road when information came over the police radio. In the vicinity of Radio Shack several persons living in the immediate neighborhood pointed out to them the direction where one of the suspects ran. At the entrance of Back street one suspect was spotted.
This suspect was chased on foot through the alleys in the area. An off duty police officer also joined in the chase. While running away the suspect was continuously pushing his hand under his shirt. The suspect was ordered to stop on several occasions however refused to do so. He was then shot in his right lower right leg. The suspect was carrying a bag containing 33 wrist watches of different brands. The suspect also had several pieces of jewelry belonging to victim of the house that was broken into on the Back street. The suspect was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The suspect has been operated on and has been admitted for observation. The investigation into this case has just started and more arrests are expected.
