Under the slogan ‘ Read to me’ the Phillipsburg Jubilee Library once again launches a bookstart campaign for babies and toddlers.
Object of the bookstart program is to motivate parents to register their baby or toddler as members of the library and to take time out to read to their child. The libraries first bookstart campaign was held in April 2009 and turned out to be big success. Just like in the 2009 campaign the program this year is packed with fun and educational activities for babies, toddlers and their parents.
The campaign was launched on Thursday May 20th with a special storytime session by well known storyteller Ginnie van Duyvenvoorde.
On May 27 remedial teacher Patti Maier will conduct a special workshop for parents and caregivers about reading to your child. Patti Maier’s workshop was one of the highlights of the campaign in 2009. So if you missed it last year make sure to attend Patti’s workshop this year.
The evenings of June 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be movie nights. On June 1st the movie Ice age 3 will be shown, June 2nd will feature the movie Tooth fairy and on June 2nd the movie UP will be shown at he hall of the library.
During the first two weeks of June library staff members will visit the day care centers on the island to engage in ‘read to me session’ with the toddlers. Parents are asked to inquire at their daycare centers on which day the session will take place.
Sandra Cheung from the Tzu Chi Foundation will present a special workshop about sign language and teaching and music on Thursday June 10th.
On fathers day , Sunday June 20th the brand new baby and toddler area of the Library will be officially opened. This area will be a small paradise where babies, toddlers and their parents can enjoy books in a relaxing atmosphere.
On June 24th a reading lunch for toddlers will held at the Library and simultaneously in several daycare centers all over the island.
On that same day Clara Reyes will close off the campaign with a workshop about moving and dancing with babies and toddlers.
During the whole campaign all children under the age of four who register as library members will not only get their free library card but also a surprise bag full of gifts. As a special campaign offer parents of babies and toddlers will also get a library card free of charge and will only have to be pay the refundable deposit of ANG 25,-
The library invites all babies, toddlers and their parents to come to the Library and be part of the campaign activities. It is never to early to teach a child the Love for books!
