Crime does not pay

The Public Prosecutor’s Office Sint Maarten will be actively executing court orders to repay illegal proceeds of crime.

The Court of First Instance in Sint Maarten in the last few years, ordered suspects in various cases to repay illegal proceeds from criminal activities to Country Sint Maarten. A number of the court verdicts are now irrevocable.

The laws of Country Sint Maarten considers the execution of court orders and criminal verdicts, an important task of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Among these court orders is the repayment of criminal proceeds.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office is urging persons who have not settled these criminal proceeds to voluntarily come forward to make payment. Discussing a payment plan is also optional.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office together with local law enforcement agencies may seize assets of convicted persons or arrest the convicted persons to serve prison time. The Public Prosecutor’s Office reminds the public that crime does not pay.
