The Final Breast & Health Screening is Saturday. Minister Lee visits screening session

The Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, along with partners, the American University of the Caribbean (AUC) and the Positive Foundation, are reminding women 18+ that this week’s breast and health screening session on Saturday, November 10 will be the last one.

The breast and health screening session will take place at the Vineyard Office Park Building, Philipsburg from 8.30am to 3.00pm.

Last week Saturday, November 3, Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour Emil Lee, visited the screening session.

The Minister stated, “The teams of CPS, AUC and Positive Foundation have a professional set-up here at the Vineyard Building for the screenings.

“The amount of knowledge and information being shared is impressive. Together we want to create more awareness within the community and especially women about their health and in this case identify breast abnormalities as early as possible.

“Prevention is better than cure, and I am urging our women in the community to take part in the free screening,” Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour Emil Lee said on Thursday.

On Saturday, breast screenings will be carried out by an AUC physician and health screenings by AUC students.

The screening will also include gathering the following information: height/weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and blood cholesterol.

In June 2017, the three aforementioned partners started a breast abnormalities screening study with the aim to screen up to 500 women in a period of one-year with the possibility to extend for another year in order to reach the target number.

The purpose of the study is to identify breast abnormalities that can be risk factors for diseases of the breast as early as possible and to refer for further diagnosis and treatment.
