Press release CENTRAL BANK OF CURAÇAO AND SINT MAARTEN

On 5 April 2018 a message was published in the media about the fact that listening devices were found within the Bank Building. This has been confirmed by the Bank’s management.

The investigation was carried out in response to signals from the Bank’s staff about the feeling that their conversations may have been tapped in the past. In addition, the Bank carries out regular ‘security assessments’ to ensure security within the Bank.

The CBCS carried out further research on the basis of the initial findings. It has been established that equipment has been found that can be used to monitor and record conversations, as well as equipment that can interfere with eavesdropping and recording conversations. None of the devices found were active. The equipment has now been removed.

The Executive Board of the CBCS will continue to make every effort to ensure the safety and privacy of its employees and the information entrusted to the Bank as far as possible.
