COCI Elections

Five (5) positions on the Board of the St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce & Industry(COCI) will become vacant as of January 1st 2018 and these positions will be filled by three (3) candidates elected through the upcoming Election.

Due to the resignation of two board members, two extra seats have also became available. One seat for the representation of Small businesses and the term for this seat will end on December 31st, 2019. One seat for the representation of the Large businesses and the term for this seat will end on December 31st, 2018. So, in total there are five seats available on the COCI board.

Postulation Period for the filling of these positions shall be from:
November 16th to November 30th, 2017

COCI informs the business community of St. Maarten, that nomination forms will be available from November 16th, 2017 These forms must be submitted to COCI no later than Monday, November 30th, 2017 at 12:00p.m.

The Electorate

Voters for Large Businesses are those entitled to vote, and whose names appear in the Commercial Register as involved in an established company with a minimum capital investment of One Hundred Thousand Guilders (Fls.100,000.00). Voters whose names appear in the Commercial Register as involved in an established company with a minimum capital investment with less than One Hundred Thousand Guilders capital investment are classified as Voters for Small Businesses.

Eligible to vote are persons meeting all of the following requirements:

 Residents (those registered with the Registry Office for 2 years);
 Of Dutch citizenship/nationality;
 25 years or older as of August 15, 2017;
 Involved in an established company;
 Who for one year, immediately preceding the making up of the Voters List, appear in the Commercial Register of the Chamber as: Owner, partner, manager, deputy manager, managing director, supervisory director, general attorney or proxy holders (with no limitations).
 Having no incompatibilities (more persons in the same business);
 Not excluded from eligibility (see eligible to vote).

 

Excluded from Voting are:

 Prisoners, persons put in a ward because of insanity, persons adjudged bankrupt, etc.

 

Duration of Membership:

A term of office lasts Three (3) years, with each year, one third of the membership stepping down by rotation.
