Seniors Enjoy D’OGA Dance and Yoga Session 

The More Movement for Elderly program, has expanded with D’OGA, Dance and Yoga, offered by the University of St. Martin (USM) School for Continuous Education and Life Long Learning (SCELL).

The aforementioned is done in collaboration with the National Institute of Arts (NIA). The first lesson was offered on April 5th and the participating seniors enjoyed themselves with this more exotic version of physical exercise.

The lesson was conducted by Arlene Halley, from NIA who also is the developer of this concept.

The More Movement for the Elderly was developed due to the following entities coming together: the Department of Collective Prevention Services (CPS), I&I Fitness, White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation, and the Windward Island Physical Therapist Association.

 

CPS is urging all persons 60 and over to participate in this program which is offered free of charge by the aforementioned volunteering organizations.

 

CPS is working diligently on getting more partners on-board for the expansion of the program. With the future expansion envisioned, CPS aims to have at least two weekly activities available for seniors.

 

Currently, participants have four monthly activities to attend: the 1st Wednesday of the month D’OGA at USM from 5.30pm to 6.30pm; the 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the month from 10.30am to 12.00pm at St. Martin’s Home in St. Johns.

 

The 2nd and 3rd exercise classes are offered by White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation and Windward Islands Physical Therapist Association.

 

The last Friday of the month, participants can go to I&I Fitness in Cole Bay (Behind the I-Store), from 3.45pm to 4.15pm for exercise classes.

All persons 60 and over are welcome to participate in the aforementioned activities as CPS and the More Movement Volunteers look forward to seeing all seniors join, stay healthy, be fit and happy.
