I am deeply touched by the overwhelming support by the voters of St Maarten. I would like to thank all of my staff, family and supporters for their trust and dedication during this trying campaign period.
While I definitely consider my winning a seat in parliament to be a victory, I believe that the real victory is for the people of St Maarten. Although only two of us from the 18 DP candidates will be Parliamentarians, our team still remain a team and their ideas and voice will be channeled through us. The high level of support demonstrates that it is possible to govern with integrity and transparency and be politically successful.
I am delighted to be able to continue working on behalf of the people of St Maarten from a Parliamentary seat. I am looking forward to bringing my trademark style of professionalism, openness and transparency to the floor of Parliament.
In preparation for a transition in the governing team, team VSA will already begin the preparations in order to make sure there is a smooth transition and continuity in government. A lot of progress has been made in the past 10 months and it is critical for the country that all progress that has been made on behalf of the people is secured.
