Safety search at Point Blanche Prison

On Saturday September 10th another intense safety search was conducted in the cells at the Point Blanche Prison. The search was done under the guidance of the Police department by a large number of police officers including the entire K-9 unit and with cooperation of the Dutch Marines stationed on the island and the VKS.

Prior to the search all prisoners were relocated from the cell-blocks and detained elsewhere on the prison compound. During the search the team uncovered many areas in the cells where prisoners used for the hiding of cellular phones and other illegal items. The search team also discovered that extra or false pockets were sown into some of the clothing and underwear of the prisoners. These extra or false pockets allowed prisoners to conceal any type of contraband.

Numerous cellular phones and other contraband were found. These phones and contraband along with the altered clothing were confiscated for further investigation.
