From beer house to daycare in St. John’s Saba

Like an experienced shovel operator, Commissioner Bruce Zagers of Education started the demolition process, as part of the building project  that will result in a new school complex in St. John’s, Saba. It concerns a new building for the school complex with Laura Linzey Daycare and renovated buildings for the Sacred Heart School (primary school) and the Saba Comprehensive School (secondary school).

The demolition activity was performed on the last uninhabited old house, situated on the property, better known as “the beer house”. In accordance with the master plan Education Housing for Saba there were already plans since 2012 to merge elementary school, high school and daycare together within one school complex. The project was stopped because the ground, on which the new building for the daycare had to be constructed, was still privately owned property. After a long period of preparation and procedures the Public Entity of Saba has recently officially become owner of the land. This cleared the way to realize the school complex in St. John’s as planned.

In the coming years many construction activities will take place on location in St. John’s’, for the new construction of the Laura Linzey Day Care as well as the renovation and extension of the Sacred Heart and the Saba Comprehensive School. The result of all construction activities will be a school complex in an attractive, healthy and safe learning environment.
