Arrest investigation Hector

As part of the investigation in the Hector case, concerning the death of  the female student on Saba in April 2015, an arrest was made on August 17th, 2016.

The arrest, at the request of the public prosecution office Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (BES), was carried out by the authorities in the United States of America.

The arrested suspect is a man with the initials S.C. He is a resident of the United States, but he does not have the American nationality.

C.S. is a former student at the Saba Medical School.

The investigation has always continued, since the victim was found. In addition, the Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland (KPCN) has worked closely with the National Police and the Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI) in Rijswijk.

When from the investigation, a sufficiently strong suspicion was raised against C.S. and information was received that he was in the United States, a request for his detention was made.

In the meantime, also the United States has been requested to extradite the suspect for further investigation.

The public prosecutor office BES experiences a very good and close cooperation with the US authorities. But the legal procedures which need to be followed before it actually comes to a an extradition and transfer to the BES,  could take about 6 months.

The arrest shows that good progress has been made in the investigation. However, the police and public prosecutor office will emphasize that it is important to share information that hasn’t been given to the police before.
