Joint Court agrees with Public Prosecutor: suspect violent robbery on St. Eustatius detained again

On May 24th, the Joint Court dealt with the appeal brought by the Public Prosecutor BES against the decision of the magistrate that the accused G.G.O.L. had to be set free. L. is one of the suspects of a violent robbery which was committed on April 30th on St. Eustatius. The Joint Court has reversed the decision of the magistrate and determined that L. can be taken into custody. The co-defendant T.V.S.L. is also in custody. Earlier the Public Prosecutor already took the position that suspects of violent robberies should remain in custody, if there is a legal basis for it. Such offenses cause a lot of commotion  and insecurity in the small island communities and are so severe that release can lead to feelings of insecurity.
