U.S. Consulate Hosts Curacao Customs and Miami Police Department

Acting U.S. Consul General Hormazd Kanga hosted an event for the three instructors from the Miami Police International Training Center who are currently in Curacao for a two-week management training program for 43 staff members of the Curacao Customs Department.
During the event at the Consulate, they discussed topics of mutual interest, including the need for future training program opportunities for Curacao’s law enforcement agencies by their U.S. counterparts.
For years, police departments in the Latin America and the Caribbean region have developed partnerships with the Miami Police Department to facilitate training of their personnel in modern crime fighting techniques. “It’s a great opportunity to learn from management training experts who have International experience. It’s my goal to broaden the horizon of our staff and increase their knowledge by bringing certified trainers to Curacao,” Curacao Customs Director Jules Ilario said. “It’s great to see such collaboration between the two countries. I know both sides benefit from these connections for years to come,” Kanga said.
The Miami Police Department’s International Policing Institute provides theoretical and practical training to police and other law enforcement managers about various law enforcement concepts. The department’s subject-matter experts teach “train-the-trainer” courses to their counterparts abroad, who will be able to train new officers in their respective countries and revise policies and procedures to reflect the latest techniques in law enforcement.
