RCN organizes the Conference “Communication , Power of the Kingdom”.

The communication department of the Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland  organizes the Conference “Communication, Power of the Kingdom”, in cooperation with the representations of The Netherlands in Willemstad, Oranjestad and Philipsburg, on February 18th and 19th, 2016 on Bonaire.


The conference is specifically intended for communication professionals from public and semi-public communications from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St.  Eustatius and St. Maarten and also for crisis coordinators. This is the first time that such a major event in this field is organized in this region. About 70 communication specialists from the Caribbean will participate.


The conference will be opened by the Kingdom Representative for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, Gilbert Isabella. The speakers who will give a master class come from the European and Caribbean Netherlands and are: Ivar Nijhuis (The Netherlands), Paul Martens (St. Maarten), Wouter de Jong (The Netherlands), Marco Leeuwerink (The Netherlands), Aldrich Croes (Aruba), Jefka Alberto (Curaçao). They all have extensive experience in the field of risk and crisis communication and will share their experiences in various crisis situations with the congress participants. Historian Boi Antoin has made a documentary about crises and calamities that have occurred on the islands in the Caribbean over the past years, and this is presented during the conference.


It promises to be two interesting days, addressing the latest developments and trends in risk and crisis communication. The major issues in the field which will be on the agenda, are: communication in the crisis-and aftercare phase, environmental analysis and media contacts in the event of disasters and crisis situations and the use of social media. The conference offers  enough time to network, during informal and educational parts of the program. In case of a disaster or crisis, it is very important that one can find each other. Communication professionals of the 6 islands from the Caribbean part of the kingdom have ample opportunity to meet and get to know each other during the conference “Communication, Power of the Kingdom”.
