“Dark Shadows” wins St. Maarten Day Traditional Boat Race 2015

Great Bay harbor and coastline came alive with Traditional Boat Racing for St. Maarten’s Day 2015 celebrations. Visitors and locals were seen taking pictures and chatting with the crewmembers. A visiting tourist also went became part of the crew of the 2nd place boat and loved the experience. The race started at 2pm. Taking the lead out of the harbor was the boat “Dark Shadows”. The boats sailed down to Simpson Bay.  The other boats tried on several tacks to catch up on their way back to Philipsburg but were not successful. Second Place went to “Stay Up 2”, Third “Alma Gloria” and Fourth Place “F5 Tornado”.

We also wish to thank the Coast Guards that followed the race from start to finish, making sure all sailors were safe.   The referee boat captained by Mr. Velasquez maintain the race course and dropping of buoys.
