Indian Merchants supports DigiKidz Hillside St. Peters School with IT infrastructure

Last week the Indian Merchant presented a check of NAf. 10,000 to Foresee Foundation and its DigiKidz members Navin Nandwani and Rohith Mahtani.
During this summer break the cabling will be done for a wireless network at the Helmich snijders Christian School in St. Peters. This is the third DigiKidz school on St. Maarten. During the last few months Foresee and the DigiKidz project team have made extensive efforts to reach out to the local community to request sponsoring after private foreign funding of over US$ 500,000 for the two other schools, Hillside Christian in Cay Hill, Seventh Day Adventist in Colebay, and the DigiKidz Medialab at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library.
Foresee foundation expressed its sincere appreciation as IMA’s donation will be very instrumental in having the infrastructure in place before the new school year starts.
IMA President Mr. Prakash Mirpuri explained that the DigiKidz project is a very good project emphasizing that the St. Maarten youth needs to be well prepared for the digital age. In order for St. Maarten to keep up to par with global developments each and every student has to be competent in Information Technology.
He expressed his board’s special interest in this project as it has a strong focus on sustainability. It is not only about donations by the private sector. Equally important is the accountability by all stakeholders. A strong point of DigiKidz is that School boards, management and staff, parents and students all have a role in securing the investments. IMA likes the fact that students and parents sign contracts for the use of the equipment, that teachers are trained and that school boards reserve money to replace the equipment after a number of years.
He shared with the Foresee Foundation and the DigiKidz members that IMA also will work towards a sustainable relationship by working together with the Foundation in the upcoming years while planning their upcoming fundraising activities.
IMA’s donation is part of a comprehensive IT/Technology project to equip St. Maarten schools not only with hardware and software, but also train teachers on how to integrate Technology in the teaching of the FBE curriculum and include all stakeholders, making it a real community project.
