Final preparations towards Governor’s Symposium 2015, Governance : The value of checks and balances

Final preparations are being made for the 4th Annual Governor’s Symposium entitled “Governance: the value of checks and balances” hosted by the Governor of Sint Maarten, His Excellency drs. Eugene B. Holiday, on upcoming Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Westin Dawn Beach Resort.
“This year’s symposium wishes to highlight the value and encourage the strengthening of checks and balances as an essential public, corporate and civic governance pillar for the overall functioning of Sint Maarten’s society”. says Governor Holiday. Aiming to foster and encourage advancement in the well-being of the people of Sint Maarten the theme for this year was selected by the Governor, hoping not only to inspire those attending, but also to help identify opportunities for enhancing checks and balances within Sint Maarten’s society.
The Governor’s Symposium will feature both national and regional speakers who will lend their vast knowledge and expertise to the theme. The keynote speaker will be Professor Trevor Munroe, the Executive Director of National Integrity Action, a Jamaican civil society organization. The program of the symposium also includes well-known speakers Mr. Miguel Alexander and Mr. Jan Beaujon as well as a round table discussion with all speakers, moderated by Mr. Jason Rogers, to exchange ideas on the theme.
The event is for invitees only and invited guests are encouraged to RSVP no later than Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Additionally, invited guests are requested to bring along their invitation as this is required for the registration process.
The annual Governors Symposium is considered to be a supportive platform for all invited stakeholders to focus, raise awareness and, hopefully, function as a catalyst for best practices within the community of Sint Maarten. This will be the fourth Symposium the Governor has organized. Previous themes included National Heritage, Sustainable Development and Education for Democracy.
