The Sint Maarten Lions Club was recognized for its work in the 2014-2015 Lionistic year at the Multiple District 60 Convention which was held in Jamaica from May 6th – May 10th 2015. The convention which is attended by Lions Club members from the entire district is an annual event where the incoming Council Chair and District Governors are elected, sitting District Governors report on the overall achievements of the Lionistic year, and clubs in the district are recognized for their overall club achievements.
The Sint Maarten Lions Club was represented by Lions Sunil Khatnani (President), Christ’l Larmonie (Secretary), Alphons Gumbs (Treasurer), and club members Sandra Hennis and Jennifer Johnson. Lion Claudio Buncamper of the St. Maarten Lions Club attended the convention as Zone Chairman representing Zone 2B, to which our local club belongs. The work of the St. Maarten Lions Club was recognized by commending the club for a job well done and presenting it with awards for most outstanding club in the district to promote and implement the Lions Quest program, which focuses on youth development. In addition, the club was recognized as most outstanding club in the district to promote Drug & Alcohol addiction awareness, and promoting the Lions Peace Poster contest; the latter teaching the youth to consciously think about Peace and what it means to them, and expressing their thoughts on peace through art. The club was also one of five to receive a Constitutional Area Award for being an example in Total Giving among all clubs in the constitutional area of Lions clubs. As if recognition for a valuable year of service was not enough, four club members were appointed as Cabinet members of the incoming District Governor for the 2015-2016 Lionistic year. Noteworthy is the fact that the club’s Youth Alcohol Awareness Campaign and the approach taken by the St. Maarten Lions Club received great applause by all present and the club was seen as setting an example within the District 60.
