Today Foundation Krusada received a Appeltje van Oranje, which was handed over by Her Majesty the Queen Máxima. This took place at Paleis Noordeinde in The Hague. Eric de Jong (director), Kees-Jan de Kruijf (projectmanager/counselor) and Arie Boers (coordinator groenproject) represented Krusada during this event.
Also His Majesty the King Willem-Alexander, Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix and Kingdom Representative Gilbert Isabella were present at the ceremony.
The Oranje Fonds honors annual social initiatives that succesfully connects groups of people with the Appeltje van Oranje. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are the protecting couple of the Oranje Fonds.
During their recent visit to Dia di Rincon Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander visited Krusada, where the royal couple talked to employees and former clients. They also visited the greenhouses and the metal workshop.
This year’s theme for the award is “Better for each other!”. It is about initiatives that focus on people who, for socioeconomic reasons, find it difficult to get along in society. The award consists of a bronze sculpture and 15.000 euro. The sculpture was designed by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix.
Foundation Krusada, Bonaire
Since 1999 Foundation Krusada supports people on Bonaire who cannot survive in society. The foundation is firmly rooted in the local community and provides a path to personal socioeconomic recovery. There is place for 50 people, of whom the largest number come to spend the day. A smaller number lives on the terrain. It concerns people who are confronting different kind of problems such as previous imprisonment, addiction or poverty. Through the cultivation of fruits and vegetables they also contribute to the food supply of the island.
