The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams on Monday applauded the members of the St. Maarten Police Force and the Voluntary Corp of St. Maarten VKS for showing a strong presence during road controls carried out on Monday. Prime Minister Wescot-Williams stated that, with the recent spike in criminal activity on the island, she was very satisfied with the strong show of police controls on the island; “I was very satisfied to see that our law-enforcement is taking both a proactive and steadfast approach to tackling crime on this island. With the recent activities on-going I have been in dialogue with various stakeholders regarding the tackling of crime and it is good to see the resulting controls and increased police presence. I would like to encourage the community to fully respect the rule of law and to be patient and understanding if you are controlled and if you may experience some traffic because of the increased police presence. Safety of the community is the top priority of Government and with the recent spike in criminal activity we must get the policing of the various districts right,” commented Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.
The PM also commended the Police Force in solving major criminal infractions over the past few days; “I was also happy to see that various criminals and criminal activity was brought to a halt by the dedication of our men and women of law enforcement. The job that these brave individuals do is sometimes thankless and oftentimes dangerous and as a community we must all stand by and reflect on the important role that they play in keeping all of us safe,” commented Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.
