Met Office now on FB and Twitter for all your weather and hurricane related news

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten (MDS) at the beginning of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season has started to use social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter to provide daily weather updates and information about hurricanes during the season.
The social media tools are to be used to educate the public and share critical information as it relates to the mission of MDS.
The engagement of the public via these modern 21st century mediums has been considered in the meteorological world to create effective conversation around important weather and climate issues in an effort to build a weather ready nation.
The social media addresses for MDS are: www.facebook.com/sxmweather and for Twitter, @sxmweather. MDS also has its own website which also carries the daily weather forecasts along with other pertinent information: www.meteosxm.com
Minister responsible for MDS Hon. Ted Richardson says he is very pleased that the national weather service continues to improve its services to the community by utilizing different mediums to reach the public.
MDS is a scientific organization that operates 24 hours a day, all year round, to improve the quality of life for everyone on Sint Maarten and the surrounding region. Reliable early warnings are issued in the event of any severe weather, seismic issues or climatic events allowing decision-makers, communities, and individuals to be better prepared; thus avoiding socio-economic setbacks.
After the status change on 10-10-10, Sint Maarten became fully responsible for the Meteorological Department and its activities. Services were provided by Meteo Curaçao, and on January 1, 2013, MDS became fully independent providing accurate weather service that aims to keep its community and the surrounding region safe from any meteorological hazards.
