Kandice Franklyn (25), a veteran soccer player from Saint Vincent, will be representing her hometown during the Women’s World Cup qualifiers. Ms. Franklyn started playing soccer for her National Team at the young age of thirteen. She started out playing for her home team Jebelle FC in Saint Vincent, as captain of the team. She later played college football in the United States, first in Dallas, Texas, for Navarro College and later at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Ms. Franklyn later moved to Sint Maarten and is now in the process of furthering her education, while also being an important part of the local women’s soccer team, FC Soualiga. She has been a very welcome addition to the team, showing much dedication and skill as well as being a great role model for the younger teammates, proving what all can be achieved through sports with hard work and dedication.
Ms. Franklyn will be representing her national team during the qualifying games on the 23rd, 25th and 27th of May in Antigua, against the home team Antigua, as well as Barbuda, Aruba and the Virgin Islands. After this qualifying round, the poule winners will vie against each other in August. FC Soualiga would hereby like to congratulate and wish their teammate much success in such a fantastic feat. FC Soualiga is proud to see women in sports, especially soccer, getting more and more attention, thereby putting women’s soccer on the map for the region.
