SER Presentation To Minister Ted Richardson

In a follow up meeting on Wednesday, April 16th 2014 Gerard Richardson, Secretary-general (SG) of the Social Economic Council (SER) provided the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication, the honorable Minister Ted Richardson, Chef de Cabinet, Ludwig Ouenniche and Senior Economic advisor, Ramzy Dennaoui with a presentation of the advisory body.

The SER SG gave an outline of the workings of the institution and highlighted the achievements over the past three years. SER Chairman, Arthur Bute outlined some of the future projects of the SER. Legal advisor, Daniëlle Choennie- Babel elaborated on the legal aspects of the SER, mainly its role in the constitution of country Sint Maarten, the SER ordinance, rules of order and other relevant laws of the SER.

In line with the intention of the SER to anticipate advice requests from government at the earliest possible opportunity, Minister Ted Richardson informed the SER about future plans of his ministry and a number of important upcoming topics which are currently in the pipe line. By announcing new policy initiatives to the SER at an early stage, the Minister gives the social partners represented in the SER the opportunity to advise government in a timely fashion. This speeds up the policy making and legislative process, as requesting SER advice is mandatory for government on all important social economic matters.

In an effort to inform the public on the workings of the SER, the advisory body welcomes similar meetings with other ministries, government owned companies, unions and non-profit organizations. Interested parties should contact the SER on the following phone numbers 542-4060 or 542-4065 to schedule a presentation.
