Prime Minister Meets with Minister of Defense for Dutch Kingdom Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert

Marines Base Discussed

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams met with the Minister of Defense for the Dutch Kingdom Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert at her Cabinet on Friday. The Prime Minister and Minister Hennis-Plasschaert and her entourage discussed various items as it relates matters falling within her respective Ministry.

The Prime Minister stated that one of the topics of discussion was the newly established Marine Base Point Blanche: "I will be meeting with Minister of Defense Hennis-Plasschaert who, as a Kingdom Minister, is in charge of defense for the Dutch Kingdom. Matters such as defense, nationality and foreign affairs are Kingdom Matters that are overseen by Kingdom Ministers. In that capacity the Minister will be on St. Maarten in order to have a meeting with myself and will be apprised with regards to the establishment of the Marine Base on St. Maarten in addition to General Defense Matters of the Kingdom as a whole. It is important that in areas that include Kingdom matters there is sufficient consultation so that country’s in the Dutch Kingdom are all in one line. If there is an international issue all of the constituent parts of the Dutch Kingdom would need to be synchronized in this regard," commented Wescot-Williams.
